Grimes “whiffs” on sex harassment charges against Rep. Joe Arnold while touting women’s issues
(Louisville) Kentuckians for Strong Leadership (KFSL) today called on liberal U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes to join other Kentucky leaders in demanding the resignation of state representative John Arnold, currently under investigation for a growing number of allegations of sexual harassment.
“Liberal Alison Grimes likes to play the gender card when it helps her, but even the Courier-Journal says she ‘whiffed’ on standing up for three veteran women staffers who claim they were sexually harassed by Grimes’ fellow Democrat politician,” said Gail Russell, a member of Kentuckians for Strong Leadership’s board of directors. “It’s put up or shut up time for Grimes to join other Kentucky leaders in demanding that Rep. Arnold step down while the investigation proceeds.”
Three Kentucky statehouse employees have made allegations that Rep. Arnold inappropriately touched and made sexual comments to them. All three staffers have filed ethics complaints against Arnold with Kentucky’s Legislative Ethics Commission. Grimes raised eyebrows by refusing to call for Arnold’s resignation and instead insisting that “due process” be given to “all parties involved.”
Grimes’ tepid response to the Arnold scandal is similar to that of Democratic politicians in California who refused to call for the resignation of former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, despite mounting allegations of egregious sexual harassment against women.
